About Kuhinia Maui

Led by the communities of Lahaina and Kula with the support of the County of Maui. Kuhinia Maui is a series of remembrance events that mark one year after the catastrophic fires that devastated our Maui.
Presented as Kuhinia Maui, the name is taken from  a Maui chant that proudly refers to the unequaled beauty and richness of Maui. Found in the book Na Mele Welo by renowned historian and cultural icon Mary Kawena Pukui, the final verse mentions Lahaina.
Ua ka‘a ia laki iā Maui a pau
Nani Lahaina i ka‘u ‘ike
Ua puni ‘o Maui me ka nani
‘A‘ohe mea e like aku
Ua pa‘a ka mana‘o e ‘ike
I nā ali‘i o ka ‘āina
Kuhinia Maui e
All the luck rolls forth on Maui
Beautiful is Lahaina in my estimation
Maui is surrounded by beauty
And there is none to equal it
The mind is set upon seeing
The chiefs of the land
Rich with sweetness is Maui
